Burl Oaks Golf Club first opened for play in 1971. The founder of Burl Oaks golf Club, Russ Wenkstern, began construction of the course in 1970 as a nine-hole semi private course. Nine additional holes were added in 1973. The course was designed by Mark Mitchell. In 1979, plans were formulated by the members to purchase the property and make it a member-owned private golf club.
